Staff also requests feedback from patients about how helpful their experience was, which is largely positive, according to Meunier.Īnother important factor that helps determine the inpatient program's success is if people come back after they are discharged. Typically, those scores show a significant reduction in symptoms among patients. Unit staff members look for differences such as improvement in symptoms among people when they are first admitted compared to when they're ready for discharge, Meunier said.Ĭordova said rating scales, filled out at the beginning of admission and then again at discharge, are compared. Since its opening, clinical improvements, feedback and re-admission rates have shown the success of the inpatient facility. McKee Medical Center began offering inpatient behavioral health services more than three years ago, Cordova said. In some cases, patients are unable to safely return home and are referred to inpatient behavioral health services at Banner's McKee Medical Center, 2000 Boise Ave., in Loveland. Patients who are safe to return back into the community after an ER visit leave with a safety plan filled with resources, which includes important numbers to have on hand, information about how to stay safe and outpatient resources in the community such as therapy, psychiatry and support groups.Īnother avenue includes referring patients to detox or substance abuse treatment in another Banner Health department, if needed. "If there's concern or worry, there's never a wrong time to go to be seen." "In the emergency department, we can see absolutely any mental health diagnosis," Cordova said.
